Clan Salubri
Status in Vienna: High Clan
Clan Disciplines: Auspex, Presence, Valeren
Clan Flaw: Empathic Wound. Legends differ on whether the blood of the Salubri is infused with Saulot’s compassion or cursed by his abhorrence of the Beast; whether either is true or not, Salubri who act like predators experience the horror of their prey. If a Salubri feeds on an unwilling victim, they suffer a number of wounds equal to the amount of Hunger they sated.
The Salubri must indicate in their DT whether or not they will be feeding only on willing victims. If they do not choose to limit themselves their feeding check will be easier - but they will start the next session with a wound if their feeding was uneventful or two wounds if they encountered a complication.
Notable Clan Members: Genevieve, Prince of Air in Carinthia. Kadiel, Archon Basileus of Wurzburg.

The get of Saulot often stand alone. They are both solitary in nature and many are afflicted with a wandering nature, travelling the world much as their sire is reputed to have done in ages past. Many have travelled the breadth of the old empire and some even the Silk Road beyond. They often settle somewhere for a time to offer their wisdom and return to the road a decade or two later.
Among Cainites, they are considered surprisingly compassionate and moral, policing the line between Kine and Cainite society. It is they that tend to decide what is permissible and them that often sentences others for crimes against this, to this end they have much in common with the Children of Haqim. Similarly too they are split into castes, the best known of which are the Healers and the Warriors. There are some in the clan who are aware of another Caste, known only as the Watchers, but they are rare in Europe and unknown by those outside the clan.
The Healers keep Kine healthy and hale, examining mortal society where it interacts with the immortal and oft immoral Cainite. Their works help keep the spread of Cainite kind from mortal lips and in doing so they help keep Kine from awakening in number to the presence of the wolves at the door. They are also rumoured to often be guides to those Cainites who seek Golconda, as many among them are walkers of that path.
The Warriors investigate corruption and burn it out root and branch. They seek to destroy the Infernal, the unrepentant and aid their Healer brethren in hiding the place of Cainites, by putting down those of them that cannot or will not conceal their presence. Warriors seek causes and battles that are worthy of their high-minded causes. They also often guard their Healer brethren, when they feel their kinsman are getting themselves into danger.
Many Salubri embrace the Abrahamic faiths both because they support the narrative of Caine, that their history holds as truth, and because they all have a strong element of compassion. There are of course those Salubri who are old enough to remember other gods, but often those faiths don’t so easily support their goals with audiences of the turn of the Millenium… -
While few Salubri are settled in the Holy Roman Empire, many wander through and a few will settle for a decade or so in their roaming. The biggest permanent settlement of the Healers in Europe is currently in or around the Frankish town of Albi, though that is not to say that several have not settled within monasteries more dedicated to the healing arts, if only for a decade or three.
The Warriors tend to congregate to warrior lodges and martial orders. They can be found either amongst them, encouraging their warriors to honourable battles or wandering, either alone or in the company of the Healers. Several have taken interest in the recent border wars between the Tzimisce and the Ventrue over parts of Bavaria. -
The Salubri claim Saulot was the beloved grand-childe of Caine. He was a compassionate man when embraced and his new nature never settled well on him. Forever he sought to heal Kine and Cainite alike, and control his beast. The line he sired share many of those traits with most drawn from wise and deeply compassionate mortals, be they healer or peacemaker, though Warriors seek to embrace those with fire and honour as well as compassion. Because of this, the Salubri may well be the smallest clan, embracing rarely, for they care not for sharing their condition making exceptions only for the truly exemplary.
Members of the Clan also do not often make Ghouls. Many view the vampiric state as a necessary evil but are not inclined to make things that have their feet in both worlds. Those that do are rare and may be using them simply as a step on the road for a prospective childe or have dire need for other reasons.
