DT: Support for Actions

All downtime actions can be supported in a range of different ways to improve their chances of success. This may come from Merits, Backgrounds, Disciplines, Mortal Servants, items or other sources. However, it is not possible to use every part of your support on every action. The types of support that can be used are outlined below.

  • Allies: Can provide support to a number of downtime actions equal to the loyalty of the ally. Using an ally may cause the relationship to degrade, or to prompt the ally to ask for a favour in return.

  • Assets: Can only be used once per downtime period, either by the owner or somebody they are loaning it to. Most assets will simply produce their output or bonus if given the correct inputs and someone is assigned to manage them, which does not require a downtime action; however a few will provide a bonus to specific kinds of actions, which applies here. For details on these bonuses, see the asset list.

  • It is important to note that the player of the character who owns the asset must specify in their downtime submission if their character’s asset is being loaned to another character for a downtime period. If they have not specified this and another character attempts to use the asset - or if the asset has already been used this downtime period by the owner - it will not provide a bonus to the action.

  • Disciplines: Can be used on as many actions as desired, but only where the character is directly involved themselves, unless they have a means by which to grant some of their power to their mortal servants. Additionally, frequent use of Discipline effects which require hunger checks will impact the character’s feeding check to determine their hunger level for the next session.

  • Factions: It is possible to draw upon factions with whom your character is in good standing, to support with certain kinds of actions. However, calling on the support of a faction will reduce your standing with them, and most factions have a narrow range of things they will do, even for someone they like.

  • Items, Merits and Flaws: Apply whenever they are appropriate to the action being taken and have no limit unless noted.

  • Resources: May be applied to as many actions as required, but using your character’s resources may result in them being taxed either temporarily or causing a permanent decrease in resources if overused. See the backgrounds writeup for more details.

  • Thralls: Each point in Ghouls or Retainers can either support one of the character’s actions, or act as an independent servant for a single downtime action. Ghouls will provide better support than retainers. The types of support they can provide is determined by the job they were stated to have when created.
