Assets
This background represents the businesses, buildings, havens, people and many other types of useful holdings that a character may own when they start in the game. For full details on Assets, refer to the relevant section in the rules. Assets must be purchased individually using asset ranks, and the cost is based on the size, type and rarity of the asset. Typically a common production asset will cost 1 or 2 ranks, while complex assets will usually cost 2 or 3.
It is possible to purchase many Assets, but keep in mind that there are limits to the number that your character can actively manage themselves (equal to Mental+Seneschal). Additionally, each Asset will have a physical location; if your character does not have a domain large enough to accommodate them, some may fall outside of their territory. Production Assets may also be restricted to specific parts of the map based on where those resources occur, so check before buying something like a mine, quarry or lumber yard.
Elders may want to have more Assets than they wish to or are capable of managing, and then assign Retainers, Ghouls, Neonates or Ancillae to run them on their behalf. Ownership and management of Assets is dynamic and can change from downtime to downtime, but they may only have one owner and one manager per downtime period.
Assets within a Domain naturally attract humans to work there. A Domain with a significant level of industry, represented by these Assets, may therefore be a better place to hunt than a Domain with few Assets and thus fewer humans.
